Why disciplined bookkeeping is the foundation of every business.

Author · Jinu Govindan

This is our first note as a new firm, and it is the principle everything else rests on: clean, reconciled books are not overhead. They are the foundation on which every financing, audit, valuation and — increasingly — tax position is built.

Why it matters more than it seems

When the books are right, every other question gets easier: a bank funds you faster, an auditor signs off cleaner, an investor trusts the numbers, and you make decisions on fact rather than feel. When they are wrong, every one of those becomes a scramble — usually at the worst possible moment.

The discipline we run on

Record promptly, reconcile to zero, close monthly, and have a second person review before numbers leave the building. It is unglamorous and it is the whole game. It is the standard we are founding this firm on, and the one we will hold to.

Our founding note, December 2017. The discipline has not changed — only the regulations built on top of it.
